Heat Gain for Glass Not Shaded by an Overhang (Including Glass Doors and Skylights)

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Qsg = HTMs x Area

Where:

 Qsg        = Cooling load due to unshaded glass, Btuh
 HTMs        = Glass heat gain HTM (based on outside - inside temp. and Table 3), Btuh/Sq.Ft
 Area        = Net area of glass (including frame), square feet (ft²)

Ref: Manual J 8 - Chapter 6

Note:        Sensible cooling HTM values for glass, defined by the equation GHTMs = U x CTDs, are determined from the summer temperature difference, glass type, the direction the glass faces, the number of panes of glass, the presence (or absence) of internal shading, and/or an external mesh screen.
