Heat Gain for Glass Shaded by an Overhang

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Qsgs = (Hu x W x HTM-Ns) + [(Ht-Hu) x W x HTMs]

Where:

 Qsgs                = Cooling load due to glass section shaded by overhang, Btuh
 Hu                = Height of unshaded portion of glass, feet
 W                = Width of glass, feet
 HTM-Ns                = Heat transfer multiplier for north facing glass, (Table 3, Manual J 8), Btuh/Sq.Ft.
 Ht                = Total height of glass, feet
 HTMs                = Heat transfer multiplier for glass facing normal direction, (Table 3, Manual J 8), Btuh/Sq.Ft.

Ref: Manual J 8 - Page 6-9

Note:  If the glass faces north, the overhang has no effect.
